The council has prepared a draft social regeneration charter for St Thomas Street, in order to maximise the regeneration benefits available from new developments for local people. For more information click here
As a first step in the process of preparing a charter, a social research exercise has been carried out to develop a set of baseline indicators for the area and the following four key goals have been identified:
Goal 1: Create opportunities for young people
Goal 2: Bring communities together through shared amenities and affordable housing
Goal 3: Improve local employment opportunities
Goal 4: Provide opportunities for recreation and healthier lifestyles
To help develop the draft charter and to identify projects which could contribute to the themes set out above, a series of workshops and tours are being organised:
Tour 1: Facilities for young people. Monday 27 January 5-8pm with drink at London City Runners at the end. Meet at Marlborough Sports Garden, 27 Union Street, SE1 1SD
Walking tour visiting Science Gallery London, Bermondsey Village Hall, Snowfields football pitch, Whites Grounds skatepark, Hopking, Downside Fisher, London City Runners, Salmon Centre
Tour 2: Making employment happen. Thursday 6 February 1800-2000 refreshments provided. Meet Southwark Construction Skills Centre, 33 Heygate St, SE17 1AZ
Tour of skills centre by local resident and centre manager John White, with introduction to Southwark Works and overview of the Shard Jobs programme
Tour 3: Improving public spaces. Friday 14 February 0800-1000 with refreshments at the end. Meet outside St George The Martyr Church, SE1 1JA
Walking tour visiting as many public spaces as possible including Tabard Growers projects, Leathermarket JMB estates, Leathermarket Gardens, Guys Park, Tanner Street Park, St Mary Magdalene Park
