We have been asked by a couple of residents to look at up-grading the entry phone system. We have received a quote for replacing the existing door entry system with a new audio video door entry control system; with a video screen linked to the ground floor main entrance so that residents can see who is buzzing them and a telephone handset in each flat. This option would retain the existing access control system, allowing residents to retain existing fobs. However, if we need to de-activate a fob because it is being used for anti-social behaviour we can do this without having to decommission residents’ existing fob. Also, if we think a flat is being used for drug dealing we could recover information about the number of people being allowed into the block from a particular address.
The cost would be around £45,000 plus administration charge per block. An initial estimate of the leaseholder service charge is around £650 each.
At this early stage we would welcome your view on whether you think this is an idea worth developing.
