Problems with heating and hot water – Meakin Estate
Dear Resident,
Please accept our sincere apologies for the problems you may have experienced with the intermittent heating and hot water service on the estate in recent weeks. We have tried to summarise below what the problems have been and what we are doing about them.
Background: The estate is served by two boilers. On the 23rd October the fan to one of the boilers failed. This meant the boiler had to be shut down leaving just one boiler in operation. The remaining boiler however struggled to cope which lead to problems with the service.
The fan was taken away for repair and was re instated on 6th November. Unfortunately, further problems developed affecting the pumps to the system.
What will be done – As you may be aware engineers have been onsite almost continually since these problems arose. However, our consultants tell us we will need to fit new pumps and this is likely to take four weeks. We are hopeful this will resolve the current situation.
Long term – Rather than allow an ageing heating system to limp on the JMB has already begun the process to completely renew the heating/hot water system. This is a huge undertaking and the nature of the contract means that with the best will in the world we cannot complete the project before 2016.
Goodwill payment – As stated before, we know some people have experienced difficulties over the past two weeks and our Finance Group has authorised a goodwill payment to all residents of £10. This payment can be collected in person from the JMB office during office hours. If you are unable to visit the office then please contact us to make alternative arrangements.
Obviously we hope the problem will be resolved in the short term but we will review the question of compensation at a later date after the pumps have been fitted.
We will continue to keep you updated as and when there are further developments. If you are experiencing unusual hardship please do not hesitate to contact us and we will try and assist as best as we can.
