Well done to local resident, Austin Emery, whose Leathermarket Community Sculpture Project won the category for Best Community Arts Project at the Southwark Arts Forum Awards on the 29th October.
Austin, a resident of the Whites Grounds Estate, conceived and organised a series of free workshops mainly for residents living on the Bermondsey Street JMB estates. However, the workshops proved so popular that they attracted many attendees from the wider community.
The LCSP was up against some stiff competition for the award from other shortlisted projects, including the Dulwich Picture Gallery (Good Times) and Theatre Peckham. However, it would seem that the strong resident component of the Leathermarket Project won the judges over.
