Southwark Council has now completed a set of fire risk assessments for all JMB estates.
The assessments state clearly the action required by both residents and the JMB to reduce the level of risk to occupants and visitors as a result of fire.
The JMB has started to undertake works identified in the reports for which they have a responsibility.
Over the next few months we will be contacting residents directly where there is something they must do to comply with the report.
The most common risk factors identified are:
- Metal grills on doors and windows
- Bulky items obstructing fire escape routes
- Combustible items left in communal areas
Fire safety is particularly important on high density estates and we therefore need everyone’s full co-operation in ensuring we minimise risk to all residents by undertaking the actions identified by Southwark’s risk assessors.
