Southwark’s greatest housing success – the Tenant Managed Organisation movement – was celebrated at the Council Assembly held at the Charter School, Dulwich.
David Atkin, Chair of the joint committee of Southwark TMOs and John Paul Maytum, Chair of Leathermarket JMB led a delegation from Southwark’s TMOs to talk about the work that resident-led housing organisations do in the borough and how they are trying to take forward services for their residents.
This included a description of a couple of initiatives that Leathermarket JMB is progressing – self financing for TMOs and work around developing new affordable rented homes in the area.
John Paul said:
“It was an honour for us to be invited to speak to the Council and I’m glad that we had the chance to outline Southwark’s proudest success in housing.
“I was delighted by the support that we received from across the political spectrum and the level of interest and support that we had from councillors. Some of the initiatives that we are working on are national firsts in housing management and something of which we all should be particularly proud.
“We were also pleased to talk about the increasingly-strong relationship between Southwark Council and the TMOs and the great partnership work done with council teams – particularly Martin Green, Lee Page and the TMI team and Ian Young and the Finance Team.”
