Southwark Council has approved a 7-storey development of 72 flats on the site of the former Harper Road flats, despite the strong opposition of Leathermarket JMB and the Lawson Estate Tenants and Residents Association.
The development will be carried out by housing association Family Mosaic – with Southwark Council handing over the land and green space previously managed by Leathermarket JMB.
Residents had expressed significant concerns about the size, scale and design of the building.
Leathermarket JMB and the Lawson Estate Tenants and Residents Association took up up these concerns and strongly opposed the development at Southwark Council’s Planning Committee.
Despite our efforts – and the supported of all three local councillors, Cllr Poddy Clarke, Cllr Claire Hickson and Cllr Tim McNally – the Planning Committee gave permission for Family Mosaic to build a development of 72 homes on the site.
