Improvement works for Lawson Estate

9 January 2011

A programme of works to brighten up blocks on the Lawson Estate and to improve security will start later this month (January 2011)

The ground floor areas of Munday House, Greene House, Lyly House and Jonson House are to be enclosed from the weather, with the metal grills replaced by glazed screens to match the entry doors.

The entry door to Munday House will be moved as part of this work to prevent probleems with antisocial behaviour.

Redecoration in Falmouth Road

This is the first part of a programme of works to brighten the ground floor lobby areas of these blocks, which will be followed by redecoration of the lobbies. The first phase of the lobby improvements - the repainting of the lobby areas in the Falmouth Road block (pictured right)- is now almost completed

As a separate programme, the fencing along the length of Deverell Street is to be replaced with new wooden fencing funded by ARK Schools as part of the Globe Academy development. This includes the fencing at the back of Munday House and the fences between Middleton House, Alleyn Houseand Kempe House.

This fencing work is due to start on 24 January 2011 and due to last 10 days.

John Paul Maytum, Chair of Leathermarket JMB, said:

"We have listened to residents concerns and are delighted to be able to start this work to improve the Lawson Estate. When we resolved the financial situation with Southwark Council we said that the money we received would be used to make a visible difference to our estates.

"I'm delighted that we've been able to start to deliver on this promise on our largest single estate.

"I'm also pleased that after long negotiations between the Lawson Tenants and Residents Association and the Globe Academy that we are now in a position to have the tatty fences replaced along Deverell Street. I'd like to thank ARK Schools for supporting the community in this way."

If you have any questions or concerns about this work contact the JMB office.
