New affordable housing was a huge concern that was expressed by JMB residents during the ballot.
The JMB was told over and over again that you are worried that none of the new housing that will be built in the area will be affordable by our tenants or their family members.
The JMB believes it should be possible to build new homes which can be let at rents that JMB tenants can afford - and would be affordable when their children when they need to become independent. Far too often the 'affordable' housing being built by developers in the area end up being homes for (part) sale that our out of reach of local people.
We want to see if there are real alternatives that can meet the needs of local peple. We are starting this by having an open meeting experts in co-operative housing and finance to come and talk to us and explain what can be done. Come along and talk about your issues with getting genuinely affordable housing for you and your family - and see what solutions might be possible.
If you can’t make the meeting, but still want to find out more information, contact the JMB office.
