Meakin Residents asked to speak out on detailed proposals for Rothsay Street
Residents on the Meakin Estate are being asked to have their say on detailed designs for the upgrading and redesign of Rothsay Street at a meeting at 7pm on 17 March 2010 at the Decima TRA Hall, 7 Decima Street, SE1 4QR.
This is a key meeting for residents to see the plans for what Rothsay Street could look like and make their comments. Residents will also be asked to prioritise which parts of they plan they want most with limited funding avawe will also have some cost information available so people can start to look at priorities.
The plans for the future of Rothsay Street have been drawn up by the Jam Factory Residents Association together with Southwark Council and will be funded through the £183,000 set aside for this work by the developers of the Jam Factory as part of the planning agreement for the Jam Factory (a 'Section 106' agreement).
Work planned includes:
- New wider pavements
- Narrowing Rothsay Street to slow down traffic and remove car parking on the street
- A raised section on the road to link the Meakin arch with the new public garden on the Jam Factory site
- improved lighting
The new public garden at the Jam Factory site
Decima Street TRA and the JMB are asking for:
- Cleaning and repainting for Meakin Estate block facing
- Improved lighting - particularly by the Meakin Car Park by Rothsay Street

Representatives of Decima TRA and JMB staff will be attending the meeting to help support residents to get their views across.
