Cleaning

A cleaning service is available on JMB estates 7 days-a-week. A thorough clean is provided during the week and a priority service at weekends. Cleaners are responsible for a number of common areas including lobbies, lifts and stair wells.

Residents are responsible for the areas outside their own front door, including the walkways of blocks of flats and the landing area of tower blocks.

You should not leave rubbish outside your property but put it immediately into the large bins on your estate or use the rubbish chutes if your block has them. Residents on the Hamilton Square estate may leave their rubbish bags outside their door on the day of collection. This is normally on a Wednesday.

Weekend cleaning service

Residents have told us that the biggest issue at weekends is nasty mess (such as urine), often found after Friday and Saturday night.

The JMB have changed the weekend cleaning service to become a priority cleaning service to ensure that these sorts of mess are cleaned up as soon as possible.

So - between 5pm on Friday and 7am on Sunday - if you see:

  • nasty mess, such as urine
  • broken glass, or other dangerous mess
  • offensive graffitti

then you should call the JMB on 020 7525 1600 and let us know what the problem is and where eactly it is and we will send someone out as soon as possible to deal with it.

The JMB Cleaning Standard

The JMB has a Cleaning Standard which sets out the minumum level of cleaning that every resident should expect for their home and estate. Read more about the JMB Cleaning Standard

Bulky Rubbish

If you want to get rid of bulky rubbish such as old furniture, fridges or cookers then the JMB will remove it free of charge. Please book a date for removal with the JMB office by coming in to the office, calling 020 7575 1600 or by e-mailing cleaning@leathermarketjmb.org.uk

Recycling

Southwark Council operates a door-to-door recycling service using either bags or boxes depending on the type of home you have.

Cooking oil

Please dispose of your cooking oil carefully. Do NOT pour the oil straight down your sink or a drain. This is likely to block the drains and cause problems for your home.

Be careful how you dispose of cooking oil as leaking oil stains the balconies and stairs and can make these dangerous to walk on.

To get rid of cooking oil either put it in a sealed container and throw it out with the rest of your rubbish
