The government has announced that the sell off of high value council homes to help fund the extension of Right to Buy discounts for housing association tenants will not go ahead until after April 2018 at the earliest.
The forced sales of council homes for the JMB would potentially mean that every JMB property which become empty would be sold on the open market with the money ending up with the Treasury. JMB residents ran a vibrant campaign leading up to the passing of the 2016 Housing and Planning Act to have this policy overturned or modified as it believed that it would exacerbate the existing housing crisis.
Fingers crossed that this perverse piece of legislation will remain buried in the long grass permanently.
