Internationally renowned artist Norman Ackroyd unveiled the Shared on Tyers Estate as a part of the Bermondsey Street Festival on the 20th September 2014.
The sculptured piece stands 4.5 meters tall and is made up of stone pieces crafted at community workshops which took place on the Tyers Estate in 2012. The pieces were assembled and incorporated into the final work of art by Whites Grounds resident and artist Austin Emery.
The unveiling was witnessed by a crowd of about 200 hundred people, including a Brazilian band and various dignitaries. The veil used was donated by another famous artist, Zandra Rhodes.
The sculpture is possibly the first of its kind to grace a Southwark Estate
